Eminem scores No. 1 with 'Curtain Call'

NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Detroit rap superstar Eminem crashed onto the Billboard 200 albums chart Wednesday with his fourth consecutive No. 1, "Curtain Call: The Hits."

Lil' Wayne's "Tha Carter II" debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Korn racked up its seventh consecutive Top 10 album, debuting "See You on the Other Side" at No. 3.

In its sixth week on the chart, the "Now That's What I Call Music 20" fell from No. 1 to No. 4 and Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" clocked in at No. 5.

"The Road and the Radio" by Kenny Chesney fell to No. 6 while Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons" climbed to No. 7.

Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" was No. 8, followed by The Black Eyed Peas' "Monkey Business" at No. 9 and Enya's "Amarantine" at No. 10.

Overall domestic CD sales rose 24 percent over last week, but remained 10 percent behind last year's figures for the same period. Total album sales for the year thus far are 12 percent behind 2004.

Producer Newmyer dies on Toronto location

TORONTO, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Prolific independent film producer Robert F. Newmyer has died in Toronto while supervising the production of "Breach" at age 49.

Newmyer suffered a heart attack brought on by an asthma attack while working out in a Toronto gym Monday, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

The Washington native was a partner in Outlaw Productions and had more than two dozen film credits including the indie hit "sex, lies and videotape," Denzel Washington's "Training Day" and Tim Allen's "The Santa Clause" movies.

His most recent projects were the comedy "The Santa Clause 3" and "Breach," starring Chris Cooper and Ryan Phillippe, about an FBI agent who suspects his boss is a security risk.

One of his projects in development at the time of his death was "The Lost Boys of Sudan," about a group of boys who marched across their country in an effort to escape the violence there. He became a personal advocate for the refugees and even took them into his home.

Newmyer is survived by his wife, Deborah, four children, his parents and two sisters.

Jackson family shops around 'reality' show

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Producer Cory Rooney is shopping around a reality show following Tito Jackson's three sons as they try to break into the music business.

Michael Jackson's siblings LaToya and Jermaine would also be part of the show that would feature the former members of the boy band 3T as they try to get a career going, The Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday.

Rooney, who is producing a new MTV series called "The Shop," told The Reporter Tito Jackson's adult children will receive help from their extended Jackson family as they navigate the muddy waters of the music industry.

It is not known whether their uncle, Michael, will be part of the show, but he is included in the pilot, The Reporter said.

The networks all passed on an earlier Jackson reality proposal in which the family wanted to show how they rallied around Michael after his California acquittal on child molestation charges.

Plea deal reached in 'Star Wars' piracy

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A California man has pleaded guilty to putting the latest "Star Wars" movie on the Internet before it was released in theaters.

Marc Hoaglin, 36, of Huntington Beach, Calif., pleaded guilty to federal copyright violation in Los Angeles Tuesday in exchange for a sentence ranging from probation to six months in prison, the Los Angeles Times reported.

If the case had gone to trial, Hoaglin faced a maximum three years in prison if convicted, the newspaper said. Sentencing was set for March 6.

Hoaglin was the first person convicted under the 2005 Family Entertainment and Copyright Act, which made it a federal felony to upload a movie before its DVD release, prosecutors said.

Court documents said the copy of "Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith" was taken by an employee of a post-production facility and it went through several hands before making its way to Hoaglin, who put it on the Web May 18 -- the day before the film was released.
