Director Louis J. Horvitz tapped by Oscar

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- The 78th Annual Academy Awards telecast will have Emmy-winning director Louis J. Horvitz at the helm for the 10th time, it was announced Tuesday.

Three of Horvitz's Emmys have been for his Oscar broadcasts. He recently completed his 14th stint directing "The Kennedy Center Honors" and directed his 12th Primetime Emmy Awards in September.

He has also co-produced and directed "The People's Choice Awards" for 10 years, executive produced and directed "An Evening of Stars" for 10 years and directed "The American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award" for a dozen years.

He is currently putting the finishing touches on "An Evening of Stars: Tribute to Stevie Wonder," which will air Jan. 26.

ABC will televise the Academy Awards live from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre on March 5.
