ASCAP reveals top 25 Christmas songs

NEW YORK, Calif., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)" by Mel Tormé and Robert Wells was the most performed holiday tune of the past five years.

The song tops the list of the most performed Christmas songs, put out by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

Nat King Cole's 1946 version of "The Christmas Song" is the most popular version on radio, ASCAP said.

No. 2 on the list is "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town." "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "Winter Wonderland" and Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" fill out the Top 5.

"Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" is No. 6. "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" is No. 7, followed by "Jingle Bell Rock," "I'll Be Home for Christmas" and "Little Drummer Boy."

Newer seasonal favorites include "Santa Baby" at No. 24 and Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime" at No. 25.
