LOS ANGELES, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- The stars are aligned for Hollywood's big screen version of the classic TV comedy "Get Smart."

Steve Carell will play the hapless secret agent Maxwell Smart originally played by the late Don Adams, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The spy spoof was created for the small screen by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry. It followed the exploits of Smart -- Agent 86 -- and his cohorts at CONTROL as they battled the enemies at KAOS.

The big screen version being directed by Peter Segal will center on CONTROL's battle for government funding, The Reporter said.
