Directors tap Eastwood for top honor

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Hollywood filmmaker Clint Eastwood is being honored by the Directors Guild of America with its Lifetime Achievement Award.

DGA President Michael Apted said Eastwood will receive the group's highest tribute during the 58th Annual DGA Awards Jan. 28, 2006 in Los Angeles.

"Clint Eastwood is the consummate filmmaker," Apted said in a statement.

He noted Eastwood's more than 25 films in the past 35 years have crossed all genres and "he does it all with great class, intelligence, and style."

Current and former Guild presidents choose the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, which has only been bestowed 31 times in the organization's 70-year history.
