Actor Harold Stone dead at 92

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Character actor Harold Stone, who often played TV villains between the 1950s and 1970s, has died in Woodland Hills, Calif., at age 92.

Stone died of natural causes Friday at the Motion Picture and Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

Stone was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1964 for his portrayal of an Army medic who becomes a male nurse in the CBS series, "The Nurses."

He also played Sam Steinberg, the father of David Birney's character on the CBS sitcom "Bridget Loves Bernie" and was the publisher on NBC's "My World and Welcome to It."

Jerry Lewis directed him in three films -- 1967's "The Big Mouth," "Which Way to the Front?" in 1970 and the 1980 "Hardly Working," which was Stone's final film.

He appeared in about 30 films, including Alfred Hitchcock's "The Wrong Man," "Spartacus" and "The Greatest Story Ever Told."

Stone is survived by two sons, a daughter and four grandchildren.
