Los Lonely Boy's drug case ends

SAN ANGELO, Texas, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- The attorney representing U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, took a day off this week to help Los Lonely Boys drummer Ringo Garza escape a drug charge.

A misdemeanor marijuana possession charge against Garza, 23, was dropped in Tom Green County Court Wednesday and his wife, Lenora, 25, pleaded guilty to possessing less than 2 ounces of pot, the San Angelo (Texas) Standard Times reported. Lenora was fined $2,000 and sentenced to three days in jail already served.

The couple was represented by Dick DeGuerin, the same attorney defending DeLay on charges of money laundering and criminal conspiracy.

"It's a misdemeanor marijuana case -- in some circles, that's a badge of achievement," DeGuerin, said. "I don't mean to be flippant, but I don't think it's a terrible thing."

Police found the marijuana at the Garzas' home last January after two women claimed they were sexually assaulted during a party there, the newspaper said.

Authorities said they did not anticipate following up on the assault allegations and DeGuerin said there was "no proof of any sex of any kind."

It was "a bunch of people who got together for a big party," he said.
