Roger Waters to stage new opera

NEW YORK, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Former Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters wants to get the world interested in his new opera.

Waters is staging concert-style performances of "Ca Ira," an opera set during the French Revolution, Thursday and Friday in Rome. He hopes the shows will attract interest to present "Ca Ira" elsewhere.

"What I have to do is go on working as hard as I can to make sure those performances are as good as I can make them," Waters says, "and hope that the press and other promoters or people who come to see it go, 'Wow, we can put this on. This is great!'"

Waters adapted "Ca Ira" from a libretto by Etienne and Nadine Roda-Gil.

Pink Floyd is being inducted into Britain's Music Hall of Fame Wednesday in London. The group reunited for this year's Live 8 concert in London, but there are no plans for future projects.
