LOS ANGELES, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- The Sci Fi Channel Wednesday picked up "Battlestar Galactica" for a third season.

Production on the 20 new episodes will begin early next year, Zap2it.com reported.

"Battlestar Galactica's" cast -- including Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell -- will return for the third season along with executive producers David Eick and Ronald D. Moore.

"Battlestar Galactica" -- based on the 1970s ABC series -- has been a critical and ratings success, Zap2it.com said.
