Alanis Morissette happy to look back

PARIS, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- With a new best-of album, Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette is allowing herself an uncharacteristic look backwards.

"I typically breeze through every passage and over on to the next expression, the next record, the next project," said Morissette, who's just released, "The Collection," a 19-song compendium of hits and favorite songs from her last 10 years of recording. There's also a new cover of Seal's "Crazy" that Morissette recorded for a Gap ad campaign.

In a post-show telephone interview from Paris, Morissette said that recording an acoustic version of her multi-platinum 1995 breakthrough album "Jagged Little Pill" encouraged her to take another step in reflecting on her past.

"This year really turned into my acknowledging everything that I've done for the first time," she said, "which was a real challenge to me because I typically don't stop and look back in that way."

Morissette has four concerts scheduled to promote "The Collection" before she begins working in earnest on her next album. She'll also stand in for an absent Bob Dylan at the U.K. Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony Wednesday in London, performing his "Subterranean Homesick Blues."
