Rush members seek to join Florida suit

FORT MYERS, Fla., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Rush singer Geddy Lee and drummer Neil Peart want to join a federal lawsuit against Florida deputies stemming from a scuffle with their lead guitarist.

An amended complaint has been filed in U.S. District Court in Fort Myers, Fla., asking that the Rush bandmates of Alex Zivojinovich, whose stage name is Alex Lifeson, be added to his suit against Collier County Sheriff's deputies, the Naples Daily News reports.

Zivojinovich's suit sought damages in excess of $75,000 while the amended complaint could result in damages reaching "tens of millions of dollars," the guitarist's attorney said.

The musicians claim injuries the guitarist suffered at the hands of deputies caused a break in the band's touring and recording schedules, costing them millions of dollars.

Zivojinovich, 50, is charging police brutality for a New Year's Eve 2003 arrest in an incident that involved his son. Father and son both pleaded guilty to misdemeanor resisting arrest and were sentenced to one year on probation.
