MTV's 'Laguna Beach' spinoff announced

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- MTV's "Laguna Beach" has spawned "The Hills," which will follow cast member Lauren Conrad to school and her magazine internship at Teen Vogue.

"The Hills" will join the MTV schedule next spring, Zap2it.com reported Monday.

"'The Hills' to 'Laguna Beach' what 'Melrose Place' was to 'Beverly Hills 90210,'" Executive Producer Tony DiSanto told the Web site.

He said the spinoff "focuses on the challenges she faces as she tries to juggle school, work and relationships -- a situation very relatable to a lot of our viewers at this point in their lives."

Conrad, 19, is attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in downtown Los Angeles.
