LONDON, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor and London theater star Kevin Spacey has received an honorary degree from London Southbank University.
The artistic director of London's historic Old Vic theater was honored at the university Wednesday along with British news anchorman Trevor McDonald, hellomagazine.com reported Thursday.
Spacey is starring in "Richard II" at the Old Vic and has been hailed for his community outreach efforts, the magazine's Web site said.
"We went around door-to-door and we discovered that within spitting distance, most of these people have never been in the Old Vic," he said. "And I said, 'Well, why not?'
"We've brought in 1,500 families in the last 11 months from the neighborhood, either at no cost at all, or at huge discounts. We're trying to be inclusive within our neighborhood."
