Jones named to play TV's 'Blade'

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Onyx frontman Kirk "Sticky Fingaz" Jones has been tapped by Spike TV to star in its first original drama, "Blade."

The series will be based on both the Marvel comic book and the trilogy of films of the same name, Daily Variety said Thursday.

Jones will take on the role played by Wesley Snipes on the big screen -- a half-man, half-vampire warrior charged with protecting humans from underground demons.

"Blade" comic author Geoff Johns is teaming up with "Blade" screenwriter David Goyer for the pilot, with production scheduled to begin next week in Vancouver and a projected June 2006 premiere.

Although he's best known for his six years with Def Jam recording artists Onyx, Jones had a regular role on FX's "Over There" and a recurring role "The Shield."
