NEW YORK, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Rockers Yellowcard Monday announced founding guitarist Ben Harper has left the band.

"Ben Harper, lead guitarist of Yellowcard, has announced that he's moving on to focus on developing his indie label, Takeover Records, and related production projects," a statement given to MTV.com said. "Takeover was the original imprint to release Yellowcard records as far back as 1997. ... The band wishes Ben well in his future endeavors."

Violinist Sean Mackin said the remaining band members and Harper had "simply grown apart."

"This change is hard for all of us, but Ben will always be our brother," he added.

Harper had been missing from the band's lineup for the past three months, MTV.com noted.
