Jury to decide Blake wrongful death trial

BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Whether or not actor Robert Blake owes his dead wife's children money for her shooting death is now in the hands of a Burbank, Calif., jury.

Bonny Lee Bakley's children filed the wrongful death suit against the "Baretta" star after he was acquitted of her murder in a criminal trial.

Bakley was shot to death in the couple's car on May 4, 2004, after the couple had dined at a Studio City restaurant. Blake, 72, claims he had gone back into the eatery because he forgot his gun and when he got to the car, Bakley was dead.

During the wrongful death trial, jurors heard from Blake's side that any number of people could have wanted the woman dead. Witnesses revealed details of Bakley's tawdry past and her business of sending men naked pictures and fleecing them, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Her children, however, maintained Blake killed his wife because he wanted sole custody of their infant daughter, Rosie.
