Clooney clears the record on London brawl

LONDON, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Actor George Clooney says there's no truth to a story in the London Evening Standard that he got into a drunken brawl with a security guard.

The Evening Standard claims a tipsy Clooney got into a shoving match with a bouncer at Meza nightclub Friday after the London premiere of Clooney's new movie "Good Night, and Good Luck."

The newspaper was provided with quotes from an anonymous onlooker and reports Clooney was angered by the guard's failure to control paparazzi -- and that Clooney only backed off from the fight after his ex-girlfriend, Lisa Snowdon, pulled him away.

E! Online says Clooney released a statement saying no punches were thrown and the actor's beef was not with a security guard, but with someone "connected with the movie."

The altercation, which went no further than harsh words, had "everything to do with someone being unkind to a woman," Clooney's publicist said.

No more details were released, except that the woman involved was not Snowdon.
