Blake wrongful death trial nears end

BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Actor Robert Blake testified at his California wrongful death trial he shook his fatally shot wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, and said: "Wake up toots."

The two-month long civil trial in the suit filed by Bakley's four children was expected to end Thursday in Burbank, Calif., the Los Angeles Times said.

Blake, 72, was acquitted of murdering Bakley, 44, a con-woman he married after DNA tests revealed the child she originally tried passing off as Christian Brando's was his.

Bakley's family claims the "Baretta" star killed her to get control of the child, Rosie. But Blake testified during the trial that he loved Bakley and suggested she was killed by one of the many men she scammed by sending him naked pictures in exchange for money.

Brando, the son of the late Marlon Brando, repeatedly invoked his 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination when he was called to testify about his relationship with Bakley, who was killed May 4, 2001, after having dinner with her husband in Studio City, Calif.

During his time on the stand, Blake testified he loved Bakley but was not "in love" with her, the Times said.
