But Aniston hopes her performance in the sexy new thriller, "Derailed," will help people see her as more.
"The 'America's Sweetheart' label gets put on a lot of people," the former "Friends" star told reporters in New York Sunday. "I don't pay too much attention to that. I'm not trying to shake anything. I'm just following my instincts and doing work that is coming to me and I'm grateful for it."
Aniston admitted there were moments when she wondered if she could play a married woman whose tryst with handsome Clive Owen has horrible consequences.
"(This role) was such uncharted territory and I felt such a trust in everything the director (Mikael Hafstrom) said," she recalled. "It was interesting to him to take this ('America's Sweetheart') persona, or whatever the persona is that didn't grant me the opportunity to do these types of roles, and put (me) into this part. That doesn't always happen and so I really appreciated that."
