LOS ANGELES, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Actor George Takei, best known as "Star Trek's" Mr. Sulu , has revealed he is gay and has been in a steady relationship for 15 years.

Takei came out in an interview in the latest edition of the Los Angeles-based magazine gay and lesbian magazine Frontiers, "Entertainment Tonight" reported Friday.

Takei, 68, said his role as a "very contained but turbulently frustrated man" in the Los Angeles stage play "Equus" inspired him to reveal the secret he'd been hiding for years.
