Parents seek boycott of 50 Cent film

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A coalition of Los Angeles leaders, activists and parents are threatening to organize a boycott of rapper 50 Cent's movie, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."

The group is angry with Paramount, MTV, Interscope Records and 50 Cent for billboards, posters and other ads for the film that show the rapper brandishing two handguns, AllHipHop.com reported Tuesday.

Project Islamic HOPE, The National Action Network, Justice For Murdered Children, the local NAACP, Stop The Violence Increase The Peace and Dr. Earl Ofari Hutchinson issued a statement Tuesday criticizing the ad campaign for promoting gun violence.

"It's irresponsible for Paramount Pictures to promote and market a movie that glorifies carrying guns," the statement said.

The group demanded all the ads with 50 Cent carrying guns be immediately pulled or it would take action to organize a boycott.

Representatives for Paramount were not available at press time.
