MusiCares to honor James Taylor

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Singer-songwriter James Taylor was named Thursday as the 2006 MusiCares Person of the Year.

Taylor will be honored with a gala, dinner, auction and concert Feb. 6, which coincides with Grammy week, RollingStone.com reported.

Taylor is being honored for his musical career and commitment to philanthropic causes, particularly the environment and children's health issues.

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences established MusiCares in 1989 to help people in the music industry with healthcare needs.

The MusiCares ceremony is two days before the 48th Annual Grammy Awards, which will be broadcast live on CBS from Los Angeles.
