DETROIT, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- White Stripes guitarist Jack White says he wants his new Detroit band, the Raconteurs, to be completely different from anything he has done before.
"I don't want it to sound anything like the White Stripes," White told RollingStone.com. "This is a full-on band -- dual songwriters coming together, building off one another, bouncing off each other."
For the Raconteurs album, due early next year, White teamed up with long-time friend Brendan Benson, who recently released "The Alternative to Love" on the White Stripes' V2 Records label. Musicians Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler round out the Raconteurs -- a French word for "skilled teller of anecdotes."
Benson said he and White did most of the songwriting at Benson's Detroit home, sometimes writing sections of songs independently.
"We each went into separate rooms," Benson said. "He wrote a section, and I wrote a section. We didn't talk about it, we just did it, and it worked out beautifully."
