MTV pushes Latin VMAs up a day

QUINTANA ROO, Mexico, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Hurricane Wilma's track toward Mexico prompted MTV Latin America producers Tuesday to reschedule the fourth annual MTV Video Music Awards Latin America.

The star-studded ceremony originally scheduled for Thursday will be conducted Wednesday at Playa del Carmen in Quintana Roo, Mexico, Pollstar reported.

The ceremony will taped and broadcast Thursday on MTV Latin America. Other MTV stations worldwide will show the Latin VMAs later in the month.

"This decision was not taken lightly, as it is extremely difficult to move a show of such magnitude to an earlier date on such short notice," MTV Networks Latin America's Pierluigi Gazzolo said. "However, the safety and well-being of everybody involved in the show takes precedence."

Lineup of performers and presenters will remain the same, Pollstar said.

Molotov has been tapped as host with performances from Shakira, Ricky Martin, Juanes, Foo Fighters, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Sean Paul, Belinda, Miranda, Reik, and Babasonicos.
