Beanie Sigel subpoenaed in weapons probe

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Rapper Beanie Sigel has been subpoenaed by a federal grand jury investigating drugs and weapons in his Philadelphia neighborhood.

It was unclear whether the rapper would also be questioned about this week's slaying of his stepfather and the kidnapping of a man described by police as an "associate" of the victim.

Sigel's attorney told the Philadelphia Inquirer Sigel has been ordered to testify before the grand jury next week, the newspaper said Friday.

Sigel's stepfather, Sam Derry, was shot to death and his body set ablaze earlier this week. The next day, Wallace Moody was reportedly abducted at gunpoint and tortured by men seeking drugs and money.

When Moody resurfaced and reported his story to police, he was arrested for parole violations, the newspaper said. Moody was convicted along with Derry's brother in a 1999 drug dealing case.

Sigel was acquitted weeks ago of attempted murder, stemming from a 2003 shooting in front of a Philadelphia bar.
