Blake admits telling wife he had cancer

BURBANK, Calif., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- In his second day of testifying in the California wrongful death trial of wife, actor Robert Blake admitted he lied to her that he had cancer.

Bonny Lee Bakley's children are suing him for monetary damages for their mother's death, even though the "Baretta" star was acquitted of her murder by a Van Nuys, Calif., jury.

During testimony in a Burbank, Calif., courtroom Monday, Blake said he told Bakley he had colon and prostate cancer in an effort to convince her to abort their daughter, the New York Post reported. She did not have an abortion and the couple married before she was shot to death outside a Studio City, Calif., restaurant in 2001.

Blake also testified he offered Bakley $250,000 if she would get an abortion, but he denied threatening or wanting to kill his wife, the Post said.
