LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Early quiz show host and announcer Jerry Lawrence has died in Los Angeles at age 93, it was reported Wednesday.

Lawrence died Saturday in Los Angeles of unspecified causes, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Lawrence started his career on New York radio in the 1930s, working at stations WOR and WNEW and the CBS network. He hosted "Moonlight Savings Time," which was broadcast to troop ships and war industry workers during World War II, and was an announcer on "The Frank Sinatra Show" in 1944.

In Los Angeles, he worked in radio and TV. He was host of CBS' "The Spade Cooley Show" and helped develop local quiz shows.

He announced for TV's "Truth or Consequences" when it was hosted by Jack Bailey on NBC in 1954 and 1955, and played bit parts on "Dragnet" and "The Donna Reed Show," the Times said.
