L.A. museum to auction stars' art

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is auctioning 42 pieces including works once owned by Zeppo Marx, Burt Lancaster and Cary Grant.

The November Sotheby's auction will include a portrait titled "That Modigliani" painted in 1916 and once owned by Marx, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday. The painting eventually wound up in the possession of film director William Wyler, who donated it to the museum 1951.

Lancaster's estate donated 11 Henry Moore sculptures and maquettes going under the hammer. Edward G. Robinson and his wife donated an oil painting by Georges Rouault and Grant used to own the Eugène-Louis Boudin seaside scene.

Also hitting the block is a Picasso that belonged to director George Cukor and a Camille Pissarro oil painting that the museum purchased in 1981 using a donation from the late Jack Benny.
