Congress gets report on college piracy

WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- A report released to Congress Wednesday says progress has been made toward stemming the flow of illegal film and music downloads from U.S. college campuses.

The Joint Committee of the Higher Education and Entertainment Communities issued its report "On Progress During the Past Academic Year: Addressing Illegal File Sharing on College Campuses."

"The response by both the education and entertainment communities this past year to the issue of illegal file-sharing has been overwhelming and the coming years, while challenging, hold even more promise," the report said.

Dan Glickman, head of the Motion Picture Association of America and a member of the committee, said in a news release the entertainment and higher education communities have established "a good foundation."

"I am pleased by the efforts of the Joint Committee and the reception by university administrators around the nation," he said. "We have made a lot of progress, but a lot of work remains."
