Lawsuit launched of Peyroux CD

NEW YORK, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Musician William Galison has filed a $1 million lawsuit against jazz singer Madeline Peyroux, her former attorney and Rounder Records.

The lawsuit filed in New York revolves around a February 2003 independent CD, "Got You On My Mind," which Galison funded, arranged, mixed and produced, he said in a phone interview.

Galison said he had an agreement with his former girlfriend to tour and support "Got You on My Mind," but then her attorney launched a misinformation campaign in an attempt to sever their professional relationship when she got her contact with Rounder.

He said Greenberg falsely leveled allegations of abuse against him to free the singer from her obligations to "Got You on My Mind."

None of the allegations involved physical touching, he added.

"I never touched her inappropriately, ever," he told UPI.

Galison said Greenberg also committed "trade libel" by taking the CD he made with Peyroux and shopping it to Universal, the parent company of Rounder Records, as "a demo" solely owned by Peyroux.

After she was signed to a contract with Rounder, the record company and attorney then allegedly conspired to keep Galison's record out of mainstream markets by falsely claiming it was a copyright violation, Galison said.

A status hearing on Galison's suit is scheduled for Sept. 28.
