LOS ANGELES, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Actress Emma Roberts -- daughter of Eric and niece of Julia -- has been tapped as the lead in "Nancy Drew: The Mystery in Hollywood Hills."
Jerry Weintraub is producing and Andrew Fleming is directing the film for Warner Bros. Pictures, the Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.
In the film, the teenage sleuth accompanies her father on a business trip to Los Angeles and stumbles on evidence about a long-unsolved crime involving the death of a movie star, the Reporter said.
The first "Nancy Drew" book was published by Stratemeyer Syndicate in 1930. Mildred A. Wirt Benson wrote 23 of the first 30 books and Harriet Stratemeyer, who inherited the company with her sister Edna, wrote 24 more volumes. The books have been rewritten and updated over the years.
The 175th volume -- "Nancy Drew Mystery Stories" -- was published in 2003.
Roberts stars in Nickelodeon TV's "Unfabulous."
