NEW YORK, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- "Tarzan" is set to swing onto Broadway next spring, says the Disney show's producer, Thomas Schumacher.
Opening night for the show, which will feature music and lyrics by six-time Grammy Award winner Phil Collins, is scheduled for May 10 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
Collins has expanded his songs from Disney's 1999 animated film into a complete theatrical score.
Two-time Tony Award winner Bob Crowley has signed on to direct and design the scenery and costumes for the musical, which features a book written by Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang.
The show's book is adapted from the screenplay by Tab Murphy, Bob Tzudiker and Noni White and based on the novel, "Tarzan of the Apes," by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Previews are set to begin on March 24.
