'Deadwood' No. 1 in Creative Emmys

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- HBO's "Deadwood" topped all series, grabbing five trophies at the 2005 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

ABC's "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives" took four apiece at the Shrine Auditorium Sunday night and Comedy Central's "South Park" won its first Emmy for animated program of less than an hour, Daily Variety reported Monday.

Kathryn Joosten was named best guest actress in a comedy series for her role on "Desperate Housewives. Other "guest" winners were Ray Liotta for NBC's "ER," Amanda Plummer for NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and Bobby Cannavale for NBC's "Will & Grace."

HBO won a total 20 Emmys, including six for its original movie "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers" and three for "Warm Springs."

ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" was named best reality show.

"Deadwood" won five of its 11 Emmy nominations, for cinematography, art direction, costumes, make-up and hairstyling.

PBS took the Emmys for nonfiction special "Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson" and nonfiction series "Broadway: The American Musical."

HBO's Middle East documentary "Death in Gaza" won two awards for director James Miller, who was shot to death during the filming, and one for exceptional merit in nonfiction filmmaking. Jerry Lewis, 79, received the Governors Award for his work with victims of neuromuscular dystrophy.
