Prince Albert: 'Set up' by son's mom

MONACO, Monaco, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Monaco's Prince Albert claims he was "set up" by a flight attendant who gave birth to his son and adds the boy, now 2, will never be a prince.

About six months after the death of his father, Prince Rainier III, a woman came forward with graphic details of her affair with Albert, 47, which resulted in the birth of a son, the New York Times reported Saturday.

"It was a very difficult moment for me," the prince told the Times, adding he is still "coming to terms" with the unintended fatherhood.

"Yes, I think I was set up," he said when asked if he was tricked into impregnating the mother.

Albert said he is supporting the mother and his son financially but does not see the boy "because of his mother's attitude toward me."

He also said the boy will never become prince because the Monaco Constitution requires parents of heirs to the throne be married.

"I don't think that will change," he said.

The illegitimate son will, however, eventually inherit some of the prince's $2 billion fortune, the Times said.
