Outkast movie lands at Universal studios

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- The untitled HBO Productions musical film starring Grammy Award-winning hip-hoppers OutKast has landed at Universal Pictures.

The movie, formerly called "My Life in Idlewild," was written and directed by Outkast's longtime music video collaborator, Bryan Barber, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The story is set in a 1930s Southern speakeasy and centers around the piano player played by Andre Benjamin, aka Andre 3000, and the club manager played by Andre Patton, aka Big Boi.

The cast also includes Ving Rhames, Terrence Howard, Faizon Love, Patti LaBelle, Macy Gray, Cicely Tyson and Ben Vereen.

Universal, which found success with the music-based films "8 Mile" and "Ray" will release the film sometime next year.
