Björk returns to big screen in Venice

VENICE, Italy, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Icelandic singer Björk, who vowed to never act again after her critically-hailed screen debut in "Dancer in the Dark," has changed her mind.

Björk and her boyfriend, Matthew Barney, screened their experimental project "Drawing Restraint 9" at the Venice Film Festival Friday, the BBC reported.

The film shot in Nagasaki Bay on a Japanese whaling vessel stars Björk and Barney as humans who turn into whales.

"Matthew created the script and the film's universe and I made the music to fit into this universe," she said.

The singer was awarded the best actress prize at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival for "Dancer in the Dark," but said at the time shooting the film was so gut-wrenching she would never act again.
