Regis to emcee Radio Hall of Fame ceremony

CHICAGO, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- The National Radio Hall of Fame Wednesday said Regis Philbin will be the host of its 2005 induction ceremony in Chicago.

The Nov. 5 inductees are the comedy team Abbott & Costello; Cincinnati Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman; ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton; retired Pittsburgh Steelers color commentator Myron Cope; and the late Jean Shepherd, radio humorist and co-screenwriter of the classic 1983 holiday film, "A Christmas Story."

The Emmy Award-winning Philbin is host of the nationally-syndicated TV show, "Live with Regis and Kelly" and former host of ABC's "Who Wants to be a Millionaire."

He began his broadcasting career as an NBC page on the "Tonight Show" in New York. He was a radio news reporter and talk radio host in San Diego and Los Angeles before gaining national exposure in 1967 as sidekick announcer on "The Joey Bishop Show."

An hourlong radio special of the induction ceremony will be produced and distributed by Westwood One.
