GLASGOW, Scotland, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Salvador Dali's masterpiece, Christ of St. John of the Cross, has been voted the favorite painting by readers of Scotland's Glasgow Herald.
The painting is part of Glasgow's city art collection.
Of the hundreds of votes cast during the past several weeks, 29 percent chose the Dali while 18 percent picked Avril Paton's Windows in the West, which is also part of the Glasgow Museums collection. In third place was Joan Eardley's Flood Tide and No. 4 was Orange Blind by FCB Cadell, the Herald reported Tuesday.
The Dali painting and its copyright was bought by the director of Glasgow's museums in the early 1950s for about $15,000, the newspaper said. The masterpiece is now worth many tens of millions of dollars.
