Suge Knight spoke of peace before shooting

MIAMI, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Hip hop record producer Marion "Suge" Knight declared peace in the East Coast/West Coast rap wars shortly before was shot at a Miami party.

Knight's shooting during Shore Club soiree honoring rapper Kanye West before the MTV Video Music Awards early Sunday could mean an end to the uneasy truce between hip-hop rivals, the Miami Herald reported Monday.

The longtime feud has been linked to the shooting deaths of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., both of which remain unsolved to this day.

Knight was in intensive care at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach Sunday after undergoing surgery on a shattered leg bone.

Police told the Herald they have no suspects and their investigation has been hampered by uncooperative witnesses.

The party crowded with celebrities was just getting under way when the assailant walked up to Knight, 40, and fired at least two shots.

A witness told the Herald pandemonium erupted as the shots rang out.
