British TV star charged with rape

LONDON, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- A former star of the British soap opera "Coronation Street" was charged Tuesday with raping a woman in a London nightclub.

Chris Quinten, 48, allegedly attacked the victim at The 10 Rooms club in Piccadilly Circus in June, the Mirror reported.

Quinten played "Coronation Street" mechanic Brian Tilsley for 11 years until 1989 and now works as a party organizer.

He was scheduled to answer to the charge at Horseferry Road Magistrates Court Wednesday.
