Tonino Delli Colli is dead at 81

ROME, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Italian cinematographer Tonino Delli Colli, who worked in "Life is Beautiful" and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," has died in Rome at the age of 81.

He was found dead in his Rome apartment Wednesday, his niece told the BBC.

Delli Colli was director of photography for the Oscar-winning "Life is Beautiful" and shot more than 130 movies in all, including "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and "Once Upon a Time in the West."

He worked regularly with directors such as Sergio Leone, Federico Fellini, Roman Polanski and Pier Paolo Pasolini.

He shot "Toto a Colori" -- Italy's first color movie -- in 1952, and won four David di Donatello awards.

Delli Colli is survived by a son. He funeral was scheduled for Friday at Santa Maria dei Miracoli in Rome's Piazza del Popolo.
