LONDON, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Actress Meera Syal, granny Sushila in "The Kumars at No. 42," and her husband, Sanjeev Bhaskar, who plays her grandson in the BBC comedy, are expecting.
Syal, 44, told The Mail on Sunday they were surprised to find out she was pregnant. She has a 12-year-old daughter from a previous marriage.
"Yes, it's true, I am pregnant and we are delighted," she said. "It has come as a bit of a surprise -- I am 44 -- but we're very pleased and are now planning for it.
"I'm due in December. We're very private and we haven't spoken about this publicly but we are naturally very pleased indeed."
Bhaskar, 41, said the couple is "playing it safe for the moment" and will be "more forthcoming" with information as it gets closer to Syal's December due date.
