Lynyrd Skynyrd reschedules August concerts

NASHVILLE, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Johnny Van Zant's vocal cord troubles have forced the band to reschedule eight U.S. concerts.

Doctors at Nashville's Vanderbilt Voice Center ordered Van Zant to rest his voice after finding "significant vocal cord inflammation and swelling," the band posted on its Web site.

Shows scheduled for Chillicothe, Ohio; Sevierville, Tenn.; Sedalia, Mo.; Springfield, Ill.; Dallas; Beaumont, Texas; Woodlands, Texas; and Stillwater, Okla., are all being rescheduled, the band said.

The southern rockers who count among their hits "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird," have been on the road steadily since performing during the 47th Annual Grammy Awards in February.

The band said the new concert dates will be posted on its Web site as they are scheduled.
