LOS ANGELES, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Actor Jon Voight is taking over for Ian Holm in the title role of CBS TV's "John Paul II" miniseries, it was announced Friday.

Holm cited personal reasons for leaving the four-hour miniseries, which started production Thursday in Krakow, Poland, Daily Variety reported Friday.

ABC's competing miniseries about the late Pope, "Have No Fear: The Life of Pope John Paul II" starring Thomas Kretschmann, began shooting last week, Variety said.
