'Desperate Housewives' go to China

HONG KONG, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- China Central Television will broadcast the ABC hit series "Desperate Housewives" in a deal announced Friday.

The series will make a fall primetime debut on CCTV-8 as part of the deal between Buena Vista International Television Asia Pacific and Zone Vision Networks, the Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

Zone Vision owns the primetime block on China Central's entertainment channel, which features international dramas and movies, the Reporter said.

Buena Vista Senior Vice President Steve Macallister said, "... a good story can transcend all cultures and languages."

Nominated for 15 Emmy Awards, "Desperate Housewives" is licensed to more than 150 territories worldwide.
