Rolling Stones rock Toronto club

TORONTO, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- The Rolling Stones capped a month of rehearsals in Toronto with a stripped-down "thank you" show for 1,100 lucky fans who paid $10 a ticket.

The intimate Phoenix Concert Theatre was a far cry from Boston's massive Fenway Park, where the Stones will kick off the "Big Bang" tour Aug. 21.

Singer Mick Jagger thanked the Canadian audience Wednesday night, saying, "You kind of leave us alone, but give us enough attention to get our egos up for the tour," Rolling Stone reported on its Web site.

The Stones played 80 minutes of straight up roots rock without all the flash and glitter of the upcoming stadium shows.

In addition to their well known hits and previews off the upcoming "A Bigger Bang" album, the British legends pulled out some surprising covers -- rocking out the Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," Otis Redding's "Mr. Pitiful" and a rousing version of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh's reggae anthem, "Get Up, Stand Up."
