Dizzy Gillespie's stuff goes under hammer

MORRIS PLAINS, N.J., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Jazz great Dizzy Gillespie's trademark bent trumpet will be among hundreds of his possessions to be auctioned in Morris Plains, N.J.

All of the items are from the Englewood, N.J., home of Gillespie and his wife of 53-years, Lorraine, Dawson & Nye Auctioneers announced in a news release Monday.

In addition to the trumpet, the Sept. 14 auction will offer several drums, a piano, Gillespie's record collection and hand-written sheet music. Gillespie's gold records and Grammy Award will also be sold.
