Advocacy group slams 'Starved'

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- An advocacy group for people with eating disorders says there is nothing funny about the FX network's new comedy series, "Starved."

The National Eating Disorders Association Tuesday urged viewers and advertisers to boycott the "appalling and reprehensible" series about four friends with eating disorders, Zap2it.com reported.

NEDA head Lynn Grefe said eating disorders are "illnesses, not choices, and certainly no laughing matter."

FX has not responded to the charges, but "Starved" star Eric Schaeffer told Zap2it.com, he has battled "eating issues" as well as addiction in the past.

"Starved" is scheduled to debut Thursday night on FX.
