Lennon treasures hit auction block

LONDON, July 29 (UPI) -- John Lennon's handwritten lyrics to the Beatles' "All You Need is Love" was bought by an anonymous bidder for $1.04 million at a London auction.

Film of the Beatles' final televised concert in 1967 shows the paper falling to the floor from Lennon's music stand and a BBC employee picked it up, the London Evening Standard reported.

The former employee provided a letter of authenticity for her treasure, described by auctioneer Cooper Owen Director Ted Owen as "the Holy Grail of Beatles lyrics."

A tunic tossed out by Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, in 1977 fetched $175,000 at the Hippodrome auction Thursday night -- roughly three times its value.

Lennon had worn the tunic for a Life magazine spread and it was later the inspiration for the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album.

Also sold were a piano from Lennon's New York apartment, watercolors he painted as a kid and pair of his round glasses still in the box.
