LONDON, July 28 (UPI) -- Troubled rocker Pete Doherty reportedly punched a London tabloid writer in the face and cursed him out for recent reports printed about him.
Mirror reporter Laurie Hanna, 24, sought treatment at a hospital for bruising and swelling after the former Libertines guitarist sucker-punched him in a crowded London pub Tuesday night, the newspaper reported Thursday.
"Doherty was passing me on my left-hand side and the next thing I knew his right fist had lashed out and connected with my left eye," Hanna said.
"He shouted, 'what is it your paper calls me -- (expletive) junkie scum?'"
Hanna reported the assault to police and an investigation was under way.
Doherty's publicists issued a statement saying: "We have nothing to say on this matter. We don't know anything about it. We cannot get hold of anyone involved."
